The Board received a report containing a detailed proposal to commission a community development and research project in the Fareham Park area. The project would be developed and implemented in partnership with Learning Links, a social enterprise based in Portsmouth whose aim is to promote opportunities for people, communities and organisations
through learning. The Board gave its support to the proposed project and called for a second mini-conference of interested parties within the project area to be arranged.

The Board heard that the Steering Group had met three times to identify and progress ideas for a report back to a future Board meeting.

The Board heard that a meeting had been held to discuss and set the terms of reference for the Steering Group. The Steering Group had looked at naming the project, contacting interested parties to map existing services and projects, and defining the area for research with a view to organisations active in the area being invited to help carry out a Community Development Project. The Board agreed to seek Hampshire County Council's assistance in supporting the Steering Group to improve the future of the area.

The Board received a proposal to commission a provider to carry out a ‘rapid appraisal’ of the Fareham Park area to inform the development of an area action plan. The Board agreed to set up a Steering Group to look in detail at the work to be carried out and the costs involved in the 'rapid appraisal' process for further consideration on 3 March 2009.

Pockets of Deprivation in Fareham (1.33 Mb) ![]()
The Board received a desktop analysis of deprivation, census & research data prepared by The Revd Canon Nick Ralph of the Portsmouth Diocesan Council for Social Responsibility. The report clearly identified Fareham Park as the main area of deprivation in the Borough. Particular reference was made to the levels of deprivation relating to education and skills. The Board agreed that an investigation into the matter should be given priority and that it was essential to obtain support from representatives of education services.

help and support was being sought.

Indices of Deprivation 2007 (360 Kb)
The report brought to the Board's attention the results of the Index of Multiple Deprivation
2007 (IMD 2007), which was published by
Communities and Local Government in December 2007. The Board asked to be provided with further
details on the causes of deprivation in the most deprived area .
